The Applebaum Family

Milton Applebaum (a native of Canada) and Shirley Schur married on ___________________. Milt always had smile on his face. He worked hard and loved his family immensely. He was both a practical as well as a smart person, helping Grandma Ruth Weiland with her investment portfolio over the years and doing quite well in both the business world as well as with his personal investments.

Milton started a car wash on Central Parkway with his wife’s cousin, Siggie Pockros. Siggie bough out Milton’s interest in this car wash located on Cental Parkway, not far from the University of Cincinnati. Milton eventually opened and operated the Howdy Car Wash on Reading Road in North Avondale, Ohio. Milton had the pleasure of having his son Steve work with him in the business. The work was hard, but both Milton and Steve enjoyed the time together. Due to the requirements of the job it was rare to get them o do anything but work on Saturdays and Sundays.

Shirley was a loving and supportive spouse. She and Milton enjoyed being members of Crest Hills Country Club where Milton played golf and served on the Board of Trustees. Shirley also played golf at the Club where they both enjoyed many happy hours. They were members of Rockdale Temple but eventually changed to Wise Temple, following their children and grandchildren. Shirley took great pride in her family and enjoyed having everyone over for Holidays. Shirley had tea cup collection with no two alike. Milton and Shirley had two sons, Stephen J. Applebaum and Mark.

Steve followed in his father’s footsteps and took over the Howdy Car Wash. Eventually, Steve sold out and enjoyed an early retirement along with his wife, Debra and daughter, Paige (who is married to Paul Bayens). Steve was an avid tennis player, water skier and in his later years, quite a golfer. Unfortunately, Steve died way too young, passing away on April 20, 2021 at age 72, from the effects of COVID-19 on his immune suppressed body. Steve had long suffered from lymphoma.

Mark took a different route, following his interest in animals and becoming a veterinarian. He came home to practice his craft in Cincinnati where he met and fell in love with Suellen Biern (October 14, ____). They had two children, Daniel (April 28, ________) and Jennifer Rose Applebaum (_________). Mark and Sue Ellen made their home directly above his practice. They were heavily involved with hosting foreign exchange students for more than 14 years and enjoyed visiting their bonus children ll over the world.
