Edith Gruenwald Biro

Edith was born on June 4 in 1929 (?OR 1921?) in Sarospotok and grew up in Rohod, a village of perhaps 1,000 people, with maybe 13-14 Jewish families), sister to Hermann, Tibor, Alice and Potyi, Her father was a farmer and a large local employer. Her family had the only radio in town and people would sometimes gather outside the the window to hear the news.

She was married in January of 1941 at 19 years of age, to Aurel Fried (1915-1944). Aurel and Edith lived in Nyirmagya, not far from Rohod. Guri and Tomi Weissbluth stayed with them for a few days when they vacationed in Rohod with their mother. According to Tomi, she and Aurel were visibly very much in love. Edith was pregnant in 1944 when she and her husband were deported to Auschwitz. They arrived on her 23rd birthday. Aurel was murdered in Auschwitz as was their infant daughter.

Edit later married Jozef Kertesz (1905-1979) and together they had one child, Vivian (1949)

Following the death of Joseph Kertesz. Edith married Jeno Biro (19____– 19___ )

Vivian Kertesz (1949),daughter of Edith and Jozef, married Alan Schwartz (Allen Swartz?) (1947) in 1973 and they had one child,  Jonathan (1979).
