Younger brother to sisters Rose and Gwen, Ben (born March 9, 1898 in the Russian Empire to (Z)Selig Ostrovsky and Sarah Ostrovsky (born Tulsky Elson)), was the baby in this Chicago based family. He immigrated to the United States on July 28, 1904.
(Z)Selig was born in Kiev, Russia on October 2, 1870 and immigrated to the United States on July 28,1904 and become a naturalized US citizen on November 20, 1909. He died May 15, 1952 and is buried in Chicago, Illinois. His father was Morton Ostrovsky (born Emlis)
Sarah was born on February 22, 1871 in Malin, Russia and immigrated to the US on July 28, 1904 through Ellis Island. She died August 5, 1926 and was buried August 6, 1926 (Death Certificate #60022355, Cook County, Illinois). Her parents were Adam (Abraham) Elson (Tusky) and Hattie Elson (Tusky) (born Turbow). Her siblings were Clara Dolkart (born Elson), Nathan Elson, Dora Jane Elson and Elizabeth Almond (Pruzhinski) (born Elson).
Ben’s siblings were Abraham Ostrom, Rae Zazpove (born Ostrom), Frances Clara Ostrom, Rose Ruttenburg (born Ostrovsky), Bertha Bold (born Ostrovsky or Ostrom), Alexander (Eli) Ostrtovsky, Emanuel Ostrovsky (Ostrom) and Aurelia (Gwendolyn) Glasser (born Orstrovsky or Ostrom).
He served in the military between 1917 and 1918.
Ben became a dentist but also made sure he enjoyed himself. He was a regular card player, associated with popular women of the day such as _____________ (see picture below) and wore a gold wristwatch with a domed crystal and solid gold band. He met young and beautiful Ruth Friedman on a blind date and quickly fell in love. Ruth was also very fashionable and consistent with the style of the. day, she had a seamstress actually sew into her wedding dress to show off her tiny waist. Ben and Ruth lived in Cincinnati where Ben plyed his craft. Together they had two daughters, Sally Lee and Lois Ann. Ben died from disease on April 2, 1949 and is buried in Price Hill, Cincinnati, Ohio.
