Abraham Herbert Kanter or “Herb” (born August 13, 1903, 1904 or 1905 in Pinsk or Minsk Russia) as he was known to his friends, grew up in _____________ as one of 4 children in a family of modest means. A superior intellect and hard work resulted in his first becoming a doctor and then being featured in Newsweek and Time magazines for his research and theories. His then future wife, Lillian Raab, saw those articles and was determined to meet him. He was the advisor to the AEP fraternity at Ohio State University and happened to stop in the fraternity house for a party when young 18 year old Lillian happened to be in attendance and spotted him. They were married on September 16, 1940 in Covington, Kentucky.
Herb’s parents were Israel David Kanter (Kantrovitch) (born January 15, 1877 in Pinsk, Russia and died August 9, 1943; immigrated to the USA in 1904 or 1905) and Sara Kanter (Kantrovitch (born Nimzovitzky in 1879 and died in 1962) and his siblings were Max Phillip Kanter (Kantrovitch) (1898-1987), Goldie Sylvia Mayer (born Kantovitch) (1907-1980) and Jacob Kanter (Kantrovitch) (1909-1911).
Herb’ s father, Israel David Kanter (Kantrovitch) had three siblings-Wolf William Kantovitch (1882-1947), Julius Kantrovitch (1884-1967) and Dina (Dina) Libman (born Kantrovitch). Herb’s paternal grandparents were Lipman Kantrovitch (born in Lechovitch, Poland and lived in Lyakhavichy, Minsk, Belarus) and Rocha Kantrovitch (born Orcinik).
Together, Lillian and Herb had three children, Barbara, Roseann and Karen. Herb was a very independent person, founded a private Osteopathic hospital in Columbus, Ohio by the name of Lincoln Memorial Hospital, loved his farm, eventually owning several and accumulating 1000 acres of farmland. Herb loved animals and always had at least one dog at his office. Unfortunately, he developed memory issues at a relatively young age, eventually passing away on September 24, 1982 and he was buried in the New Augudas Achim Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio.
